What is Retina Surgery?

Retina surgery is a surgical procedure that involves the treatment and repair of various issues related to the retina. The retina is a thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye that plays a critical role in vision. It captures light rays and converts them into electrical signals, which are then sent to the brain for interpretation.

Numerous conditions can affect the retina, such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular oedema etc. Retina surgery aims to treat these conditions by restoring or preserving vision through different techniques depending on each patient’s needs.

Retina surgeries include vitrectomy, scleral buckle surgery, or laser photocoagulation. These techniques address different aspects of retinal diseases, such as removing scar tissue inside your eye or repairing tears in your retina.

Although most people may not have heard about this type of Surgery before, it’s essential for those suffering from retinal-related problems as it could help preserve their sight and even prevent blindness in some cases.
